At least four people were killed, and two others were injured in separate road accident in Sirajganj and Noakhali today.
The deceased are: Bahadur Miah, 30, and Sujan Sheikh, 28, of Shahzadpur upazila in Sirajganj; Irin Akhter, 12, and Noorjahan Begum, 45, of Begumganj upazila in Noakhali.
In Sirjaganj, a Ullapara-bound CNG-run autorickshaw collided with a dump truck coming from opposite direction at Garadah Bazar area of Shahzadpur upazila around 3:30pm. The autorickshaw’s driver Sujan and a passenger Bahadur died on the spot, while another passenger sustained injuries, said locals and police.
Police seized the truck, but its driver managed to flee, said Masud Fahim, sub-inspector of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station.
In Noakhali, Irin and her sister Akhi Akhter, 7, were on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw near Kalikapur High School when a passenger bus from opposite direction hit it, leaving them injured.
They were rushed to Noakhali General Hospital, where doctors declared Irin dead while Akhi was shifted to Dhaka for better treatment, said police.
Police are trying to trace the bus that fled the scene after the accident, said Md Ruhul Amin, OC of Chandraganj Highway Police Station.
In a separate incident, a speedy truck ran over Noorjahan in Chowmuhani Rail Gate area, on her way to visit a doctor, around 4:00pm.
Locals took her to local health complex where doctors declared her dead, said Krishna Kumar Das, SI of Begumganj Police Station, adding that police are trying to trace the truck.
